The Bollard Project

The Art of Bollards Project was initiated by The Colour Factory artists in 2005 to inject some colour and vitality into Winchesters drab and dreary street furniture.

The Colour Factory Artists Jenny Muncaster and Rachael Alexander began to transform everyday black and white bollards in The Square Winchester into individual works of art.  Inspiration was taken from iconic paintings by artists such as Klimt, Picasso, Delaunay, Mondrian and Matisse.

With the refurbishment of The Square in 2012, The Colour Factory artists have worked on a further collection of exquisitely painted Bollards including, David Hockney, Leonardo da Vinci Henri Magritte and Jackson Pollock. The Square in Winchesters historic city centre now houses seventeen distinctive painted bollards creating an intriguing outside art gallery and continues to fascinate and amuse locals and visitors to the city.

This amazing project has been allowed to develop thanks to the kind sponsorship of local businesses and Winchester City Council.

Community and Educational Projects

The Colour Factory works with all sections of the community, young and old as well as schools and educational groups to provide opportunities for creative activities. Workshops are specifically tailored to individual needs, covering a wide range of media from design and painting to textiles, glass and ceramics.

Our sessions can be arranged for small groups working individually or for a large scale group project. Sessions can be as short as two hours or a whole day or more.  The team can either travel to your premises, or for an insight into how a professional artist studio operates we would be delighted to welcome you to the ‘Lightbox’; our purpose built beach garden workshop.

Creative Corporate Workshops

The Colour Factory works with businesses to devise and run creative staff development activities that encourage a fun and thoughtful, alternative approach to team building.

We organise creative events for companies with special ‘Colour Factory’ flair whether an open evening for prospective clients to try their hand at being artistic or a large scale event for the whole of your group.

Among our many projects The Colour Factory ran a team building arts workshop for 250 members of staff from The Exclusive Hotel chain. In one day nine beautiful six foot canvases were created by employees from all sections of the company. These canvases now adorn the walls of each hotel.

If you would like more information on arts events and team building workshops for your business please please email us here or call the number below.

Public Art

Education

One of Jenny Muncaster and Rachael Alexander’s  most recent commissions for public art locally is a colourful painting entitled ‘A Song of Colour’ designed for St Georges Street in Winchester. This lively piece of public artwork designed and painted by the two Colour Factory Artists is a hidden gem situated in the walk way behind Café Centro– definitely worth a look!
